Hello, I’m Alan Jager, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, NV State Supervisor.
My Path To Becoming A Therapist

Being born in Las Vegas awarded me the opportunity to grow with a diverse community, which fostered my curiosity regarding people. Navigating multiple cliques in primary education encouraged a more personal challenge with understanding how we connect. In exploring my own connections to others, I began to understand how difficult it is to express ourselves authentically due to expectations and pressures. Finding comfort and answers to these challenges in psychology set me on a path to acquire my bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling both at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Parallel to my education, I previously worked as a mental health technician at a psychiatric hospital, which allowed me to understand the importance of mental health and the effects of neglecting it. This furthered my interest in individual clinical work as I transitioned into working as a substance abuse counselor navigating recovery. Once completing my formal education, I began my career as a psychotherapist.
My Approach
My theoretical approach to therapy pulls from Jungian Depth, Narrative, and Existential theories. These modalities help me navigate understanding the rich depth of my clients, which informs who they are as well as what restricts them from achieving their therapeutic goals. This approach doesn’t focus on techniques or tools. But instead attending to who my clients are, tapping into their inner voice, and creating a non-judgemental space where we can imagine the possibilities expressed by that voice. Therapy is an opportunity to create a deeper understanding of what we do and why.
How I Work With Clients
I began working with clients in an inpatient setting as a technician who would oversee safety and life skills training. This launched me into a desire to work more intimately with clients and resulted in a year working in the treatment of opiate and opioid addiction. I worked in this field parallel to my formal education; however, I left once entering an internship through UNLV. I formally trained clinically at UNLV’s The PRACTICE, which is a community-based clinic operated by UNLV’s Clinical psychology department. While working with the clinical psychology department, I was offered the opportunity to participate in research labs working with stress, ADHD, and neuropsychology. Upon graduation, I took to the field at varying agencies, developing confidence in my approach until becoming licensed in 2019.
