Tyler Rich

Hello, I am Tyler Rich, I am a Licensed Marriage and family therapist.

My Path To Becoming A Therapist

I consider myself a Las Vegas local since I have I went to high school and college here. From the time I was in elementary school, I remember being the person that my friends would come to with their problems. Entering college at UNLV, I felt I was called to the ministry. After taking counseling coursework, I discovered my passion for helping people through therapy, earning my Bachelor’s degree in Human Service Counseling.

I earned my Masters in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy at the University of Phoenix. I opened Richer Life Counseling during my student internship, and have been working full time as a therapist since graduating. I have been practicing since 2015.

Before returning to grad school, I worked in what I call the “real world” of corporate America. I was a GM and trainer. With that training outside of my training as a therapist, I learn the importance of providing excellent customer service and how that must be apart of therapy. When in grad school, I worked at a facility that worked with severely mentally ill. Along with working in a rehab, I gain experience seeing how substance abuse impacts our psyche. These experiences help guide me in my understanding of human nature and taught me to always be questioning why we all do what we do.

Throughout my career, I have worked as the lead therapist in a sexual addiction intensive outpatient program. Since then I have created my own intensive sexual addiction outpatient, along with an online psychoeducation course. You can learn more about my sexual addiction program by visiting www.richerliferecovery.com.

How I View Working With Clients

My view of therapy (or theoretical model) is based on a mixture of Emotionally Focused Therapy, Jungian (depth) Therapy, and Existential Therapy. What I have found is that clients I work with want a deeper change in their lives and not just a set of tools that will help them solve the problem quickly. I like to think that meaningful change happens in 3 parts. Part one is making behavior changes. Part two is looking at the underlying emotion that is driving the behavior and learning how to access those emotions, own those emotions, and share the emotions. The last and most insightful part of therapy looks at the deeper meaning of yourself. This can be done by looking at what things you believe about your self and the world around you, learning to look to your unconscious, and developing compassion for yourself.

I find that the clients that I do the best work with are those who are interested in looking deep within themselves. Clients who can explore themselves and their relationship and go deep, but also and laugh and smile.
